Who Created The Daytime TV Talk Show ‘The View’? Know More About Awards and Achievements

The American chat show ‘The View’ was developed by broadcast journalist Barbara Walters. The show, which is currently in its 25th season, has been a staple of ABC’s daytime television block since August 11, 1997. It has a female panel made up of women from different generations who talk about the “hot topics” of the day, like sociopolitical and entertainment news. Along with the talk segments, the panel also conducts interviews with important people, including politicians and celebrities. The original location for the show’s production was New York City’s ABC Television Studio 23. It moved to the ABC Broadcast Center in New York City in 2014.

Barbara Walters, who developed The View and left the co-hosts’ panel in 2014, made its premiere in 1997. Gilbert co-created The Talk, which made its premiere in 2010. Julie Chen acts as the moderator. Barbara Jill Walters, an American broadcast journalist, novelist, and television personality was born on September 25, 1929.  Walters, who was well-liked by fans and renowned for her interviewing skills, hosted a number of television shows, including ‘Today’, ‘The View’, ‘20/20’, and ‘ABC Evening News.

From 1951 to 2015, Walters was a working journalist. On the ABC daytime chat show The View, which Walters developed, produced, and co-hosted, she appeared from 1997 until her retirement in 2014. She proceeded to host a number of special reports for 20/20 and Investigation Discovery documentaries after that. In 2015, she made her final on-air appearance for ABC News.

As a guest on the show on July 29, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama made history by becoming the first sitting president to appear on a daytime talk show. Barbara Walters made a guest appearance on the broadcast after her open heart surgery in May before she went back on leave.

Star Jones made her first visit since her dramatic exit from the program in 2006 on February 22, 2012, as a guest and spoke about it. Rosie O’Donnell made her debut appearance as a guest on February 7, 2014, after leaving the program in 2007. For Walters’ penultimate program as co-host on May 15, all eleven of the show’s previous co-hosts made an appearance to honor her retirement. The following day, Walters’ farewell appearance as a co-host was broadcast, with a number of guests, including Hillary Clinton and talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

Awards and Achievements

 In addition to Outstanding Talk Show, Outstanding Informative Talk Show, and Outstanding Talk Show Host, ‘The View’ has received 31 Daytime Emmy Awards. The Associated Press, Entertainment Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, Slate, and The New York Times all praised the show, calling it “the most important political TV show in America.” The show was the target of media criticism and on-air problems involving its panel of co-hosts starting in its eleventh season. Following a drop in ratings, it was moved from the leadership of ABC’s entertainment division to that of ABC News in 2014. The View had surpassed all other news and chat shows on daytime television in terms of viewership by 2021.

 Since The View debuted on ABC, it has won 30 Daytime Emmys, the most recent one being in 2011. Five awards have been given to CBS’s The Talk, a competing network. Both programs are up for the award this year and have previously won for Outstanding Talk Show.
