Tony Sirico was an American actor best remembered for his role as Peter Paul Gualtieri on the hit HBO series “The Sopranos.” Tony Sirico was valued at $8 million when he passed away in 2022. The Sopranos had Tony in 86 episodes. As a Woody Allen film star, he has appeared in several of his films, including “Bullets Over Broadway” and “Mighty Aphrodite.” It’s worth noting that Sirico has appeared in films like The Pick-up Artist, Goodfellas, and Innocent Blood.

Early Life

Sirico was born on July 29, 1942, in New York City to an Italian family. He grew up in East Flatbush and Brooklyn in the Bensonhurst district.  Sirico’s brother, Robert Sirico, is a Catholic priest and co-founder of the Acton Institute in Promarket.  Sirico was convicted of multiple crimes and was arrested 28 times before he began acting.

Sirico’s first confirmed film role was as an extra in the 1974 film Crazy Joe, when he landed the role with the help of Richard Castellano. Michael Gazzo was Sirico’s first interim coach. Sirico has played gangsters in a number of films including Goodfellas, Mob Queen, Mighty Aphrodite, Love and Money, Fingers, The One Man Jury, Defiance, The Last Fight, Innocent Blood, Bullets over Broadway, The Pick-up Artist, Gotti, The Search for One-Eye Jimmy, Cop Land, Turn of Faith, Hello Again, Mickey Blue Eyes and Wonder Wheel.

On February 27, 1970, he was arrested in a restaurant possessing a  revolver. In 1971, he was charged with shaking, coercion, and possession of weapons, convicted, and sentenced to four years in prison.  According to court records at the time of the judgment, Sirico owned a nightclub in Manhattan and was also charged with criminal charges for possessing dangerous drugs.

Sirico said he began trying to act as a group of former prisoners visited during his imprisonment. He starred in James Toback’s 1989 documentary “The Big Bang” and talked about his past life.

First Award-Winning Drama

He also played cops in the movies Dead Presidents and Deconstructing Harry. Sirico’s most famous acting work was as Paulie Gualtieri in David Chase’s Emmy-winning drama The Sopranos. He first auditioned for Frank Vincent for the role of Uncle Junior, but Dominic Chianese landed the role. David Chase offered her the role of Paulie Gualtieri instead; Sirico agreed on the condition that his character “does not become a rat”.

In 2003, he was awarded The Screen Actor Guild award for the drama series Sopranos.

Other Career Ventures

In late 2013, he voiced the character of Vinny Griffin, who was the family lapdog on Family Guy for three episodes, replacing Brian Griffin after his death. Brian is then brought back by time travel.

Sirico also made a live appearance in the episode “Stewie, Chris & Brian’s Excellent Adventure”, in which he threatened Stewie, who had insulted the Italians, and called them “ridiculous people”. Vinny would return in a cameo at the end of the fifteenth season premiere, “The Boys in the Band”. In 2008, Sirico launched a perfume called Paolo Per Uomo.

Personal Life

Sirico has two children, Joan and Richard. In 1999, Sirico and The Sopranos co-star Vincent Pastore met James Clemensa, a member of the Colombo crime family, and his brother Jerry at a Christmas party in Little Italy, Manhattan. Clementa was under FBI surveillance at the time.


Sirico died on July 8, 2022, at the age of 79, in a nursing home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The cause is unknown, but he was diagnosed with dementia a few years before his death.
