Originally, it was planned to end Rick’s story with Universal’s independent film. According to sources, the studio has asked Craig Zobel to direct it. But Lincoln today confirmed that these plans were shelved and the network completed the story in the series. “I can’t wait to wear cowboy boots,” he said.

Nearing the end of its 11th and final seasons, The Walking Dead is the first series of apocalyptic zombie franchises based on the cartoon of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adrad. In it, survivors of apocalyptic events suffer from the nearly constant threat of zombie attacks known as “wanderers” in the midst of a collapsed civilization.
Lincoln’s character is the sheriff who led the show’s survivor group over the first nine seasons. In Season 9, Episode 5, “What Comes After,” he is estimated to have died by members of his clan after blasting a bridge with dynamite to fend off hordes of drifters.
When he then disappeared, we finally learned that he actually survived when he took off with Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) and her companions. Grilas Michonne, the first sword-wielding survivor to be introduced in Season 3, joins the Grimes group and eventually falls in love with him and becomes a surrogate mother for the children. The character finally appeared in Season 10 and set out to find Rick after learning that he could have survived a fatal injury in Season 9.
