In the video that he posted on Twitter to announce his resignation from The Young and the Restless, Newman thanked the audience for allowing him to contribute to the history of the CBS drama.
He was home, “3,000 miles from Los Angeles,” with family, including his wife, son-in-law, and “wonderful two young grandsons,” as well as his daughter, because his contract had expired and this past Monday’s scenes were “about five weeks ago.”
Despite being overjoyed to be with those he loves again, Newman once more offered his sincere gratitude to the audience and praised the cast and crew for being “simply terrific, beautiful people to work with.” Even if for some it was a “challenging adjustment from Richard’s [Burgi] work,” he thoroughly enjoyed playing the Genoa City villain and hoped fans appreciated seeing him in the character.
After completing the video, Newman teased Young & Restless fans, “Maybe I’ll see you again one day… you never know,” while teasing another project he’s working on.
And as for saying dead on soaps, you know what they say: never.
Stranger things have happened, and even though Michael claimed that one of Chance’s men discovered Ashland’s car with him inside of it at the bottom of a ravine, “you never know,” as Newman put it, if or when we might see him rise from the grave.
