Former NFL guard Richie Incognito has announced his retirement following a tumultuous 15-year career. Incognito made the announcement on Friday at the Raiders’ headquarters in Las Vegas. The Raiders signed the 39-year-old to a three-year contract. He also played for the Buffalo Bills twice, the Miami Dolphins once, and the St. Louis Rams twice.
Excellent lineman Incognito was penalized multiple times for actions that were deemed to be above what was considered acceptable behavior. The Dolphins also punished him for insubordination toward a teammate, and he was accused of using racial epithets by some of his opponents.
At his farewell press conference, Incognito remarked, “After walking away from football in 2018, I knew if I returned, it would be to finish my career on my terms. It also had to be with the right team. “When I arrived, “It felt like home right away.” A round of applause was given to him as he entered the room by the squad’s members, as well as his agent, family members, and team owner Mark Davis.

Even though he had developed something of a “bad boy persona” during his tenure in the NFL, Incognito claimed Davis and the Raiders had confidence in him because of what he could do on the field. ‘He built such a fierce leadership mindset amongst these young guys that he’s teaching them how to become football players and how to become Raiders,’ Davis added. For me, there’s something about being a Raider that makes me feel like a kitten when I’m not around them on the field.
In May this year, the Raiders agreed to a one-year contract with Incognito. This year he started 14 games and was named to his fourth Pro Bowl as a substitute. On top of the $14 million extension at the end of the season, he only played in two games in 2020 before sustaining an Achilles injury that held him out for the rest of the season and into the following year.
When he was released from the team in 2021, that contract became null and void. An injury to his lower leg again ended his season, although he was nonetheless re-signed by the team for the 2021 campaign. Incognito stated, “I’ve suffered a lot of setbacks, many difficulties.” “Coming back from those losses and hardship is perhaps what I’m most proud of. As a result of all of those setbacks and failures, I’ve learned a lot about myself via the process of learning and evolving

After a run of questionable behaviors dating back to his tenure at the University of Nebraska, Incognito has long been recognized as one of the sport’s most controversial personalities. Incognito was drafted by the Rams in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He appeared in 164 games for the NFL. It’s crucial for Incognito to be remembered for his dedication and hard work in the field.

His home state of New Jersey native said he would love to get into coaching, especially with the Oakland Raiders.
He will continue to support and assist the Oakland Raiders while studying for his MBA at Arizona State University in Scottsdale, Arizona. “I’m forever grateful to this group for allowing me to come back and change the conclusion,” Incognito remarked.
