Queen’s Close Aide Said Harry, Meghan Romance Would ‘All End in Tears’


Most trusted and longest-serving royal servant of Queen Elizabeth II is said to have predicted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship would end in tears, according to a new biography of the prince and Markle. Lady Susan Hussey, the Queen’s lady-in-waiting and godmother to Prince William, is said to have made the statements regarding Harry and Meghan’s relationship in Tom Bower’s recently published biography of the couple:

The Queen’s confidante, who earlier told Newsweek that she was “unlikely” to be thinking of anybody else Philip at his funeral, has cast doubt on at least one of Bower’s assertions. According to Bower, a lunch gathering attended by Harry and Meghan’s friends in November 2017 was attended by Hussey and other theatre professionals. They discussed the former actress’s possible patronages, and she gave her estimate of the future of the royal couple.

“In London, Lady Susan Hussey had shortly before [New Years Day] enjoyed lunch with a group of theatre executives and directors,” the author writes. “While discussing the possibility that Meghan might become associated with the National Theatre after the wedding, Hussey became unexpectedly serious about the couple’s future. ‘That will all end in tears,’ warned Hussey. ‘Mark my words.'”

Hussey was married to Marmaduke Hussey, a former chairman of the BBC’s board of governors, and is the daughter of the Earl of Waldegrave, a long-established aristocratic family. After eight years as a lady-in-waiting to the Queen, Hussey became a powerful figure in the royal household as a member of the House of Windsor.

In 2021, Hussey was picked to take the Queen to Prince Philip’s burial by herself in her automobile. Bower claims that Hussey was one of a group of advisers and friends of the Queen who were sent to Kensington Palace before Meghan’s wedding to teach her the ins and outs of royal life.

“Meghan had become a divisive agent,” On their 2019 South African tour, the pair made it plain they were dissatisfied with their public positions and the abuse they had received from the press. “To please her, Harry had split from his old friends,” the author continues. “He had even changed his telephone number without telling his family.”
