Netflix Has Announced the Cast for Season 2 of “Squid Game.”

Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ Reveals

The South Korean death-match drama Squid Game, which is Netflix’s most-watched show ever, showed off its new and returning cast for its highly awaited second season over the weekend.

Lee Jung-Jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-Joon, and Gong Yoo, who were still in Season 1 at the end, will all be back for more, Netflix said at a Tudum fan event in Brazil on Saturday.

Four male stars have been announced as newcomers: Im Siwan, who used to be in the K-pop group ZE: A and has been in movies like The Attorney and Emergency Declaration, Kang Ha Neul, who has been in K-dramas like Midnight Runners and When the Camellia Blooms, Park Sung Hoon, whose Korean movie The Glory was a big hit on Netflix, and Yang Dong Geun, who was in the popular K-drama Connect on Disney+.

After the news, some fans took to social media to ask why there were no female cast members yet. This was especially true after model-turned-actress HoYeon Jung became a big star in Season 1.

The second season of Squid Game isn’t likely to come out until 2024. The show’s author, Hwang Dong-hyuk, who won an Emmy for his work on the show last year, will write and direct the next set of episodes, just like he did for the first season, which was loved all over the world.

On September 17, 2021, Squid Game was first shown on Netflix. It became a worldwide sensation almost right away, with 1.65 billion watching hours in 28 days and 111 million Netflix accounts by the end. It is still the most-watched show on the streaming service. In 2022, it got 14 Emmy nominations and six wins, including a trophy for best actor for Lee Jung-Jae, who was the first Asian actor to win in that field.

Fans of Squid Game will have to wait another year for more of the story, but in Brazil, Netflix announced that Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality show version, will start in November.
