Marion Sylvester Barber III (10 June 1983 – 1 June 2022) was an American professional football running back in the National Football League for seven seasons (NFL). He played college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers before being chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
He was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl in 2007 while playing with the Cowboys for six years. He participated in 2011 with the Chicago Bears. He continued his football career at the University of Minnesota, where he finished fourth on the school’s all-time rushing chart. His father, a former football player and alumnus of the University of Minnesota fell from second to third place in running touchdowns.
From 1982 through 1986, Barber played running back for the University of Alabama. From 1987 to 1991, he played for the Dallas Cowboys. Marion Barber III, a former running back for the Dallas Cowboys, died of heatstroke, Frisco, Texas, police-reported Monday, citing a medical examiner’s conclusion. On 1 June, while performing a welfare check, police located Barber, 38, at an apartment they assumed he was renting in a Dallas suburb.
