WeTV’s Mama June: Road to Redemption returned for its season finale on Friday night, and this week Sugar Bear faced a painful, emotional decision. After June Shannon gave Pumpkin and Josh custody of Alana by signing a paper, Sugar Bear was the only one left to sign.
In the footage, spectators witness Joshua Efird, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon’s husband, visiting with Sugar Bear to have him sign the legal forms.
“If the only thing you care about is Alana’s best interests,” Joshua reminds him, “then we need to sign these contracts.”
He says, “This is essentially for us to gain sole custody of Alana from June.”
Joshua clarifies that he is not coming to Sugar Bear “with a dagger” and merely wants to be allowed to take care of Lauryn’s sister formally.
“I simply want to be able to take care of Alana like I have been taking care of Alana,” he says to Sugar Bear, explaining that this arrangement would include medical bills and tuition.
However, Sugar Bear is plainly having a difficult time with the scenario and confesses that it’s going to be hard for him to sign. As he explained, it seems like he’s “essentially signing her out of my life.”
Joshua can empathise with Sugar Bear, knowing that he and Lauryn also have children. In a confessional, he says, “As a father, I could never, ever, ever envision having to give my rights away to my child, especially to another person.” But, in this circumstance, he knows that she’s safe where she’s at. He also understands that Alana would much rather live with us.
As Joshua put it, “Now she’s where she belongs—with us.”

Sugar Bear Broke Down In Tears While Pondering Signing The Document
Fans will have to tune in to determine if Sugar Bear agrees in the end. In the tape, he wipes away tears and tells Joshua, “Right now, she’s the only thing I have.”
However, judging by Alana’s recent statements to ET, it doesn’t appear like he’s getting much sympathy from his daughter.
“My dad has always been the one to just get emotional over things that he likes, like me and everything, but it’s not like a real emotion,” she remarked. It’s all just an act. He basically wants everyone to feel horrible for him.
Where is their relationship at present? “Alana stated, “He absolutely tries to bombard my phone on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, but I never respond because, like, now you’ve waited this long to be in my life? I’m about to be seventeen, and you’ve waited this long to even try?”

Why did Sugar Bear cry while transferring Alana’s rights?
In the season finale of Mama June: Road to Redemption, Josh met Sugar Bear to have him transfer custody of Alana to them. Sugar Bear was stunned, but Josh explained the circumstances to him.
Josh continued by stating that he was not pursuing Sugar Bear with “a dagger,” but rather merely desired to be able to formally and legally care for Honey BooBoo, aka Alana.
Josh and Pumpkin have cared for Alana for several years, and the Mama June: Road to Redemption actor stated that he wished to continue doing so. Josh also told them that after he gave them custody of Alana, he would be responsible for all of her medical and school costs.
