Regulators in New Jersey have given legendary rapper and actor Ice-T permission to open up a cannabis dispensary in partnership with Charis B, the founder of the California cannabis brand The Medicine Woman and a longtime friend and cannabis expert. Recently, the Jersey City Cannabis Control Board, which sets and enforces the rules and regulations regarding the cultivation of cannabis, tested and marketed in the city, gave its approval to the new business.

The new Jersey City Cannabis Control Board-approved dispensary is scheduled to open later this year and is one of just a handful of establishments that have been given the green light. There will be 5000 square feet of premium retail space in The Medicine Woman Jersey City’s first phase.

About Ice-T?

Ice-T is a New Jersey native who grew up in Edgewater, about nine miles up the Hudson from Jersey City. Ice-T is acutely aware of the fact that he is three times as likely as a white person to be arrested in New Jersey for a marijuana offense. The legalization of recreational marijuana in New Jersey last year has provided new opportunities for communities of color that have been disproportionately affected by cannabis prohibition policies.

‘My life and career have been dedicated entirely to giving back and paving the way for minorities when it comes to giving back.’ Ice-T, the New Jersey native, says he’s looking forward to a new era in the state’s cannabis industry as a result of the state’s recent decision to legalize the drug. Our customers and community can expect a premium experience thanks to our partnership with Charis B, an expert in cannabis and the founder of The Medicine Woman, who I’ve known for over 25 years.

Charis B-The Co-creator of New Venture

Charis B, better known as Charis Burrett, is the Playboy Playmate of February 2003 and the founder of The Medicine Woman, a recreational marijuana brand licensed to operate in California. Now that her brand is well-established in California, she plans to take it eastward.

Giving back to our community has always been and will always be a top priority for us at The Medicine Woman. Plant medicinal remedies should be accessible to everyone at an affordable price, “said Burrett. “Ice-T’s partnership with us to bring The Medicine Woman to New Jersey is a meaningful extension of our mission to provide nothing but the best.”

In 2015, Burrett and her husband, Luke Burrett, founded the company. Several local and national charitable organizations have partnered with The Medicine Woman Jersey City, including The Last Prisoner Project, the Jersey City Mural and Arts Program, and the Jersey City Employment and Training Program.

The fact that New Jersey is so far behind California in terms of legalization is “super, super exciting” for us, according to Charis Burrett in an interview with High Times. There is a lot of excitement about bringing this product into a state that is eager to see a burgeoning industry in the cannabis sector.

Aside from Ice-T being a Jersey City resident (which “means so much to him personally,” she said), she also mentioned that the state of New Jersey “means so much” to him. Also, my husband and I have known him for many years. Synergy and everything coming together, of course.
