Five Pet CBD Companies with Innovative Products

As people learn more about the many ways to keep their pets healthy, many are choosing a holistic approach by using cannabidiol (CBD). This natural remedy is becoming more and more popular. It is often used to treat anxiety, arthritis, allergies, stomach problems, and skin irritation.

“There are consumers that have heard of or even tried CBD for themselves but still don’t fully understand what it can do and how it works for their pets,” said Tracy Werner, national sales manager for Ziggy Marley Apawthecary by One Farm, a brand of CBD products for pets based in Niwot, Colorado

“I feel that stress and anxiety relief is still the top [reason for use as well as] pain relief, reducing inflammation, and for cats particularly, stimulating appetite.” CBD for pets is a growing category that includes drops, balms, shampoos, and chews. Many different types of pet owners are becoming interested in it.

“All age groups are open to learning about and trying CBD products for their pets,” Werner said. “Everyone loves their pets and wants to make their lives better, no matter the age bracket.” But some people in the industry said that younger people are more likely to use CBD.

“Many people don’t know that CBD is just as helpful for humans as it is for their pets,” said Chance Smith, founder and CEO of Natures Pet Relief, which makes hemp-infused pet products in Georgetown, Texas.“

I find that ’80s babies and up are [keener] to try CBD. The younger generations are more educated in the benefits of CBD and are also more open to giving it to their pets [for] anxiety, arthritis and allergies.” CBD for pets is becoming available in more and more ways, and manufacturers are focusing on making products that are effective, safe, and tasty.

Cristina Weekes, president of Grand Junction, Colorado-based Kadenwood Pet, which makes Purity Preferred CBD pet products, said, “Designing products for pets requires more than adding additional flavouring to a pet product,” We take into account the metabolism of canines and felines, [which] is important for delivering the highest efficacy and safety.”

Manufacturers agree that educating customers and employees is important if they want to sell CBD products. People may be hesitant to try CBD products because they do not know how to choose the right dose for their pets. It is important for products to include suggestions and guidelines for the right dose.

“Consumers require guidance for serving size, administration forms, frequency [and more],” Weekes said. “Having consumer information in accessible formats is critical to supporting each consumer in a preferred delivery method.”

Weekes said that people need marketing materials, social media content that can be shared, and quick phone or email responses to help them figure out how much and what kind of CBD to give their pet.

Carrying fewer brands could help shoppers who are thinking about buying CBD.

“In the past, when stores would carry five or six CBD brands, some consumers would experience decision paralysis, unsure of the best or most trustworthy option for their pet,” said Chelsea Gennings, co-founder and senior vice president of Pet Releaf, a CBD manufacturer in Littleton, Colorado.

Today, many stores prefer to carry a curated selection of one or two CBD brands. Time and time again, we’ve seen sales of the overall CBD category increase when stores limit their options.”

Kradle in Minneapolis

CEO Bill Partyka says that Kradle stands out in the growing CBD market because it comes in an easy-to-use form.  CBD oils and tinctures are the most prevalent forms of the substance, but they can be hard to measure and give to a stressed dog, Partyka said. Kradle gives pet owners solutions that are easy to use and fit right into their dog’s routine.

Kradle has taken shapes that dogs already know and like, like hard chews and toys that keep them busy, and added calming features.  The company just came out with the All-Day Calming Bone and Sleepy CleanZzz to help pet owners with two problems that are becoming more and more common: separation anxiety and trouble sleeping.

Partyka said that since pet owners are returning to work after the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for an effective way to deal with separation anxiety has become more important.  The All-Day Calming Bone is an all-in-one toy for dogs meant to keep them happy, calm, and busy while their owners are at work or away for the day.

“Because of all the uncertainty of the past two years, people are not the only ones who find it hard to relax and fall asleep at night,” Partyka said.  “The COVID-19 pandemic has messed up their lives just as much as ours.

We get a lot of orders and questions about how to help dogs fall asleep faster and stay asleep in the middle of the night.Kradle’s Sleepy CleanZzz chews are made to help dogs get back into a bedtime routine that keeps them comfortable and calm all night.
