Craig Robinson was born Craig Phillip Robinson on October 25, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois. His mother was a teacher, and his father was an attorney. Craig grew up in a Methodist household, saying, “Our house was sort of a rehearsal studio. We had drums, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, piano, organ.”

Craig moved to LA in 1999 and formed the musical comedy act L. Witherspoon & Chucky with Jerry Minor, who would later join the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” The duo appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “Real Time with Bill Maher,” HBO’s “Sketch Pad,” and various Comedy Central stand-up shows.

He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and sent back to the U.S. In 2017, Craig decided to hand over alcohol to detox temporarily, and he told “People” magazine, “I was like let me see if I can go six months and that I just haven’t gone back.” After abandoning alcohol, he also switched to a vegan diet and commenced exercising more, and he lost 50 pounds.
