The US Cannabis Council (USCC), a trade group for legal marijuana firms, released two television commercials on Wednesday calling for the adoption of the SAFE Banking Act.
On one of the posters, Dennis Brown, the father of Jordan Brown, 29, who was shot and died during a robbery at a dispensary in Tacoma, Wash., in March, appears.
In the other ad, the owner of a dispensary and an official from Washington State talk about violence at marijuana businesses that only accept cash and how SAFE Banking will protect these businesses and their employees.

The law would make it possible for the cannabis industry to work with the US financial system. For example, credit cards could be used to pay for purchases.
USCC CEO Steve Hawkins said on Wednesday at a briefing in Washington, D.C., where Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.), the principal sponsor of the SAFE Banking Act, was a speaker, that because the legislation has been delayed, dispensary workers “now carry a bullseye on their backs.”
“It’s not about Wall Street.” Senator Jeff Merkley stated that this is about Main Street America (D-Ore.). “It’s far past time to finish this law.”

Senator Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) recently sponsored legislation that would enable cannabis products to be advertised in jurisdictions where medicinal and/or adult use is permitted.
