Before getting picked by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996, he attended Georgetown University for a brief period of time. He finally became an 11-time NBA All-Star, one of the greatest point guards in NBA history. Team USA’s 2003 Olympic qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico selected him to participate in the FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico, in 2003. They won gold and had a perfect record of 10-0. The team was able to secure a place at the 2004 Summer Olympics. All eight of Allen’s appearances were as a starter. 

On August 25, the United States defeated Canada 111-71 in an Olympic qualification game. Allen finished the tournament tied for 10th in scoring, tied for 4th in steals, 7th in assists, and 9th in field goal % at the end of the tournament. Due to a sprained thumb, Iverson was unable to play in the USA’s final two games. On April 29, 2003, he was named to the senior national team of the United States of America.

In 1997, Iverson was arrested for possessing marijuana and a concealed firearm. He and his then-wife Tawant to got into an argument in 2002. On his search for her, he threatened two guys with a gun after throwing her out of the house. No contest and community service were his punishments. After the accident, the man was left with concussions, ruptures in his ears, and torn muscles in his rotators. He was granted $260,000 after suing Iverson. A 2009 bar fight between Iverson’s security guard and an Ohio man resulted in a $2.5 million lawsuit against Iverson. Iverson was also accused by his ex-wife in 2013 of abducting his own children, which he denied. She later withdrew the charge.

Allen Iverson’s bank accounts were seized by a judge in Georgia on February 14, 2012, following the former NBA star’s allegations that he was broke. That Iverson made over $155 million in NBA salaries alone during his playing days was a surprising revelation. In addition, Allen’s endorsement and merchandising partnerships are estimated to have brought in an additional $60+ million in revenue.

Unfortunately, Iverson’s financial woes are all too common among professional players. As many as 50 people were rumoured to have accompanied him on his travels. He lavished luxury goods on close associates and members of his family, most notably on his mother. After a Georgia jeweller was ordered to pay Allen $900,000 by a judge, Allen allegedly did not have the means to cut the check. This appears to be Allen’s most recent financial set-back.

For the month of December 2012, Iverson provided a Georgia judge with a detailed accounting of his income and spending, which came to $62,500 a month. One of the largest chunks of the $360k was spent on mortgages and other debt repayments. Aside from his clothing and entertainment expenses, Iverson revealed to the judge that he was still shelling out an additional $20,000 per month on groceries.
