Early Life and Childhood

Pujols was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on January 16th, 1980. His grandma, aunts, and uncles were his primary caregivers for him. In addition to being a softball player, Albert Pujols was a heavy drinker. The St. Louis Cardinals selected Albert as the 402nd overall pick in the 1999 MLB draught. He spent a season with the Cardinals’ minor league team after signing for a $60,000 signing bonus. Albert was promoted to the Cardinals’ big league squad in 2001. At the end of the season, he had 37 home runs and was voted Rookie of the Year for his efforts in 2013. 

Despite being knocked out in the first round, the Cardinals qualified for the playoffs.
